About

Even though I've already got writing responsibilities on three other blogs, I need one that's just for me to express my thoughts as honestly as they come to me even when they have no relation to each other whatsoever.

Vanity Fair, March issue.

Something about this really grosses me out… It could just be that he’s kind of a misogynist asshole and I hate him for that, and hate her for basically worshipping him. Or maybe it’s just that creepy ass look he’s giving me… Oh my, please stop!

Huh. (Spoilers for LOST season premiere)

thecurvature:

Something just occurred to me.

Jacob talked to Hurley. Even though he was dead.

Obviously we all saw this in the premiere. BUT. The thing is, I was convinced that all of the dead people talking to Hurley or otherwise wandering around in the jungle were manifestations of the smoke monster. I mean, I think we all agree that Alex was, right?

So, my first thought was OMG WAS JACOB ACTUALLY SMOKEY?????

But that doesn’t make sense, because I think we’ve established that Smokey can’t be in two places at once. That’s why Flocke disappeared when Alex saw Ben, and why Smokey didn’t come out and Flocke did instead when Ben summoned the monster. And when Jacob saw Hurley, Smokey was busy being Flocke.

So, what’s going on?

Some people have theorized that Jacob can also take on the form of dead folks, like Smokey does. A lot of people seem to think that he’s Christian. But I’m entirely convinced that Smokey was Christian. He’s the one who told Locke to move the island and told him that he had to die, which is what set him on the path for Ben to kill him, and for Smokey to take on his form. He also told Sun and Lapidus to wait for Locke and to listen to him. And since Ben was knocked out when Flocke first appeared, I believe that Flocke was not yet around when they met Christian.

So, one theory could be that I’m wrong, and that Jacob is actually Christian, and can take on the form of dead characters, and we have no idea who is who at any given time.

Another theory is that while Smokey can take on the form of dead people, Hurley can also actually communicate with dead people, Smokey and his powers aside. And the question of which dead people are which is still up for grabs. This one makes more sense, though it’s still confusing.

And I suppose the answer could also be that Jacob is God, and so killing him doesn’t really make him gone, and he can communicate with whoever he wants at any given time, beating heart or no, unlike mere mortals.

Thoughts?

I thought he could see Jacob because he can actually talk to dead people. He talked to dead people off the island, which I always sort of took as confirmation. Those couldn’t be Smokey, could it? I know we were meant to question whether it was real since he was in a mental hospital after all, but I thought that he could.

SPOILER alert if you didn't watch the LOST premiere

thecurvature:

reachingtheshore:

So that piece I linked to just now claims that Jin & Sun aren’t married anymore in the alternate timeline. Um. What??? Did anybody else get that?

Apparently their basis for this was that the security at the airport calls her Ms. Paik and then somebody added that they’re not wearing wedding rings. I’m confused… Not only because I’m all “huh, I didn’t see that” but because I’m all “huh, why are they traveling together if they’re divorced?”

My question with that theory exactly. If that’s true, they better have one hell of an explanation for it. Also, I’m in agreement with those in the comments who note that Sawyer would have been touched by Jacob, since the bomb didn’t go off until after he wrote the letter. I’m not sure just how old Kate is supposed to be, but it’s possible that Jacob touched her, too.

So in that EW interview going around, Darlton doesn’t say definitively that the bomb is what caused this other timeline. I think folks are taking that and running with it, using that to explain why these inconsistencies are showing up. Personally, I think it’d be really odd if after all of this, the other timeline wasn’t caused by Jughead, so yeah, I’m also with the folks saying that Jacob would’ve still visited Sawyer.

Also, this whole Ms. Paik thing is really starting to bug me. I hope next week explores the off-island happenings more.
