By the way
The several times in the 8 years since that I have woken up to a Beatles song on my alarm clock, my heart has started racing and I’ve gone into a panic, thinking “oh god, oh god, please don’t tell me that anyone’s dead.”
Thankfully, no one has been, yet. But it’s a really awful feeling.
I think this about pretty much all of my favorite artists that you don’t normally hear on the radio. If I hear the Bee Gees, I assume one of them has died, same with the Beatles, same with Gloria Estefan.
There a Spanish-language radio station in NYC that plays 3 songs by one artist every afternoon (or at least they used to) and when I heard 3 Gloria songs playing one right after the other one time, I was convinced she was dead. I started panicking until my mother explained what was going on.
The light rock station I like to listen to played a bunch of Bee Gees songs not consecutively, but close enough that I got really worried and it turned out that Maurice had died. That was so incredibly sad.
I don’t know how I’d even feel if it happened with Paul or Ringo though… Ringo was always my fave and Paul is, well, Paul.
