Re the LOST Monster (spoiler alert if you don’t watch but might someday)

Unless I’m mistaken, the only people who have, for lack of a better word, overcome Smokie are Locke and Eko. In one of the early episodes, the smoke monster comes towards Locke and though we never see what happens, he says later in the episode something like “I saw inside the island and it was beautiful.” We see Eko’s interaction with it, how it stops for him and shows him images of his life before the island.

Does this mean anything at all? Does anybody remember if there’s anyone else on the island who hasn’t freaked out when Smokie approached? Is this just supposed to show they’re super hardcore, or does it mean something else?

*continues to ponder endless questions that probably don’t mean a darn thing but keep the brain busy*

Hmm, interesting question. It is worth noting that both Locke and Eko had particular faith in the island, in a way that no other non-Other characters have. So yes, it may indeed mean something.

Of course, it’s also worth noting that the smoke monster likely got the best of both of them in the end — it directly killed Eko, and if my Esau = Smoke Monster = Flocke (Fake Locke) hypothesis is correct, then it also pretty clearly got the best of Locke, too.

Perhaps that was Smokie’s way of getting revenge. Don’t cross the smoke monster or you’ll die! OR give the smoke monster the ability/will/desire to transform into you when you have died and ruin your good name.
