This is actually pretty cool. This was submitted to us with this note:
“Hey guys, I had a little theory about the “flashes” in Season 5, so I made a timeline to illustrate it. Maybe readers will be interested, or want to poke holes in it, or whatever. Ok bye.”
This is cool and most of it seems right to me. Things that come to mind:
1) What photo in the Lamp Post on 9/23?
2) The end of this timeline confuses me… Wouldn’t “we’re not going to Guam” happen before they land? Huh? They went back in time when they landed? I thought they stayed in present time…

Regarding your second, I tend to agree with you. There was for sure a jump from night to day in the flight of Ajira, but a similar thing happened (from clear skies to storm) when Lapidus’s chopper was on the way back to the freighter, and that was never considered a time jump. But, according to one of the recap episodes, and apparently a podcast, they did jump to 2007.
You’ll note, however, that I put the 2007 date in speculative, not canon, because I don’t consider podcasts or recaps to be “real” as in part of the story. As well, I like Eloise’s quote about not knowing what’s going to happen next as the actual last thing chronologically, so that Season 6 can pick up there, and tell us what happens next.

And I hadn’t heard that about them possibly jumping to 2007… I guess it’s possible that they went back a few weeks, I just don’t see why they’d do that. Of course, we don’t know why they do anything.
I think most of this is solid though, and I particularly like the ‘77 parallel.
Okay, I was wondering about them being on the plane at the end, too, that kind of explains it … mainly I’m just confused because I thought tht they were in 2007 when they took off, not 2008. They were three years after they left the island, right? They left at the very end of 2004 (it was Xmas Eve when Des called Penny), so I was assuming that “three years later” meant 2007, but I suppose it could also mean the beginning of 2008. Was there confirmation that they were in 2008 back home when Locke turned up and all?
I thought the same thing until I saw this timeline - that they meant 2007 and not 2008. Last night I started going through sites with timelines, and everyone listed Jan. 2008 as the date for Ajira 316 taking off (though I’m not sure if that’s simply because it’s on the Lostpedia timeline). But I can’t figure out if/where this was confirmed… Anybody? Anybody?
