More on Google Buzz Privacy
Because I just gave a little tutorial to some of my google peeps on this. If you actually want to play around with Buzz (b/c you have free time or love social media or whatever) but you’re still worried about privacy until they work out their kinks:
just so folks know, i’ve switched my buzz to private.(people ask about that)
Right now if you are using buzz, it’s switched to public by default. That means anybody who goes to your google profile (which may or may not be hard to get to depending on your settings) can see all of your buzzes and the comments made on those buzzes. By making it private, you get to say who sees them. Right now I just chose all contacts because I don’t have the energy to edit my contact lists, but later on I’ll probably change them so only bloggers or friends or whatever can see my conversations.
(people ask some more)
just go to the box where you are typing your buzz and you’ll see that under it, there’s a button that says “public.” Switch it to private and then you might have to select what groups you want to post to (I don’t know how your google contacts are set up, but mine are in lists so that might be why it asked me that. If you don’t have them in lists, maybe it doesn’t ask that??). Select the group(s), and then press post. From then on, it will remember that setting and will use that as the default.
This is, of course, in addition to the other options we have discussed here on the Tumblrs about turning buzz off and choosing to display or hide your followers/following list on your profile.
Buzz on, people.
